10. Kuldhara, Rajasthan

Starting off with Kuldhara at number 10, it is an abandoned village located in the Indian state of Rajasthan. The haunted village comes under the Jaisalmer district and is only 18 km to the southwest of Jaisalmer city. According to the folktale, the residents of this village fled overnight in the 1800s, leaving it completely deserted.

One of the most popular stories behind the overnight disappearance of the residents is that Salim Singh, who was a minister at that time fell in love with a girl living in the village. He wanted to marry the girl, but the villagers were against it. The minister then threatened the villagers that he will impose very high taxes on them if he wasn’t allowed to marry the girl. As the villagers were completely against marrying the girl with the minister, they decided to leave the village to avoid the minister’s tyranny.

While leaving the Kuldhara, villagers cursed it to be inhabitable. Since then, the village is filled with silence and non-existence. Many tourists who have visited the place, reported feeling a negative aura within the village limits.

9. Three Kings Chapel, Goa

The next haunted place to be on this list may be quite shocking because it is a chapel (Church), which most of us usually think to be a ghost-free zone. The three Kings Chapel is situated in the Cansaulim, Goa, and is said to be haunted by the spirits of three Portuguese Kings.

It is believed that all three kings want to become solo rulers of the region at that time. One day a supper was arranged by one of those three kings and during the meal, the host king poisoned the other two to death. After that, the supporters of the two kings assembled to kill the murderer king. The king got frightened and poisoned himself in fear, leading to his death as well.

Afterward, the body of all the three kings is buried inside the church. It is believed that the spirits of the three kings roam around the church and many people have reported that after the dawn, they have felt the presence of someone nearby them.

8. GP Block, Uttar Pradesh

The 8th place among the top 10 most haunted places in India is occupied by the GP Block situated in Meerut Cantonment, Uttar Pradesh. The block is actually a compound comprising of three buildings that are abandoned since 1930.

According to locals, the place is haunted and some people stated that they had seen four boys sitting at the rooftop of one of the three buildings drinking beer. A lady in a red dress coming out of the block was also seen by a local, who believed her to be a ghost.

7. The Shaniwarwada Fort, Maharashtra

The Shaniwarwada Fort is situated in the city of Pune, which lies in the Indian state of Maharashtra and is at the 7th spot among the top 10 most haunted places in India. The fort was built by Peshwas of the Maratha Empire in 1732 and was their seat until 1818. It is believed that the fort is haunted by the ghost of a boy, who can be heard asking for help, at night. 

There is a mysterious story related to ghost activities in the fort, according to which, a young prince was brutally killed within the fort premises by one of his relatives. Since then the spirit of the boy roams in the fort and at nights people have heard the voice of a boy saying ‘kaka mala vacha’, which means, ‘uncle save me’.

6. Ramoji Film City, Telangana

Featuring at 6th spot in this list of top 10 most haunted places in India is the Ramoji Film City located in Hyderabad, Telangana. The film city is just normal for people who went there only for sightseeing. However, many people who stayed in the hotels located within Ramoji Film City, reported that they had encountered various mysterious happenings with them.

Knocking on the doors, strange marks on mirrors, scattering of food left in rooms, and falling of lights placed at heights are some of the strange happenings. It is believed that the film city is built on the war grounds of Nizams, and the spirits of descended soldiers haunt this place. 

5. Dow Hill, West Bengal

The next one to make at number 5th is Dow Hill, which is a place located in the hill station of Kurseong, West Bengal. The small township is as famous for its spookiness as for its boarding schools. Many people have encountered the sound of footsteps coming from the corridors of Victoria Boys’ School when the school is closed for vacations.

Moreover, the forest surrounding the school is also said to be haunted and many woodcutters had encountered a headless boy roaming in the forest. Several people suggested that the reason for the place being haunted is the numerous murders that have occurred in the forest of Dow Hill.

4. Agarsen ki Baoli, Delhi

Making at 4th spot among our pick of top 10 most haunted places in India is the historical Agarsen Ki Baoli, which is a deep well. Agarsen Ki Baoli is located in the capital of India, Delhi. The haunted place is located within Connaught place, which is one of the most happening places in Delhi.

Agarsen Ki Baoli is a 60-meter long and 15-meter wide stepwell having 103 steps that lead to the bottom of the well, where water is present. The water of the Agarsen Ki Baoli is mostly dried and turned black now, which makes it unusable.

It is believed that this black water attracts faint-hearted and depressed people towards it and makes them feel to do suicide. Also, many people have claimed that they have felt the presence of someone tracking them constantly inside the well.

3. Delhi Cantonment, Delhi

Another place in Delhi that claims itself to be one of the most haunted places in India is Delhi Cantonment. The area is admired for its beauty by the people, but as the sun sets, the area turns to become a nightmare. People have reported witnessing a lady in a white dress asking for a ride during the nighttime.

It is also said that the people that have stopped to give her a ride went missing and have never been found again. Some people who didn’t stop their cars told that they have witnessed the woman in white running parallel to their cars until they exit the area.  

2. Dumas Beach, Gujarat

The 2nd most haunted place to be featured on our list of top 10 most haunted places in India is a beach, known as Dumas Beach. It is located near the city of Surat, Gujarat, and is present along the Arabian Sea. Dumas beach attracts many people in the daylight but is believed to be a completely haunting place at night.

The beach was earlier a cremation ground for Hindus and even the sand of the beach has turned black from the ashes due to the burning of a huge number of dead bodies. People have reported that they heard whispers in their ears, which came with the wind flowing on the beach.

Moreover, some people who stayed there in dark complained that they heard a voice in their ears telling them to return back. It is believed that the spirits of many people cremated at the beach roam there at night

The Fort is situated in the Alwar district of Rajasthan, within the Aravali Hill range. The Fort is the most haunted place in India as it is said that anyone who had tried to stay in the fort at night became nothing more than a dead corpse.

The fort is so full of paranormal activities that entry to the fort after sunset and before sunrise is prohibited. The Archeological Survey of India has placed a board outside the fort to make the visitors aware of the entry restrictions.

According to legends, once there was a magician who fell in love with the princess living in the fort. He tried to cast a spell on the princess so that she gets attracted to the magician. However, the princess got information about his spell before he successfully cast over her and the angry princess ordered the magician to death. Before dying, the magician cursed the area to be inhabitable.
